Outreach

The Gas Turbine aerodynamics CDT is fully involved in outreach activities for a variety of target audiences

Public Open Days

The Whittle Lab holds an Open Day as part of the Cambridge Science Festival. We give the public the chance to see some of the exciting jet engine and gas turbine experiments we do at the Whittle Laboratory. You can join us for activities that show how turbo-machines work and tours of our laboratories, including the chance to see one of the first steam-turbine engines.

The CDT is developing outreach packs that can be used to teach a range of age groups about Gas turbines and aerodynamics. This year the CDT held it’s first Women in Aerospace dinner. According to Women in Aerospace, in 2010, roughly 10 percent of the aerospace industry was made up of women. While this number is slowly increasing, the Centre for Doctoral Training in Gas Turbine Aerodynamics has decided to take a leading role in promoting women in leadership roles in aero-related sciences.
